Did You Know?
Not all asbestos testing services are created equal. Many companies simply take a few samples and hand over a lab results sheet, leaving homeowners without the information or documentation they actually need.
In Manitoba, testing isn’t just about confirming whether a material contains asbestos; it often requires proper written reporting that identifies where samples were taken, outlines suspected materials, documents conditions, and provides the information needed to meet provincial asbestos requirements. At Relief Restorations, we don’t stop at the lab sheet. We provide a clear, organized report that meets Manitoba’s expectations and helps ensure you stay informed, protected, and compliant during your renovation, demolition, or restoration project.
If your home or building was built prior to the early 1990's there's a good chance the building was constructed using asbestos containing materials. If you're doing any renovations, demolition or construction, you'll need to complete asbestos testing and possibly a full inventory to ensure there is no asbestos containing materials present.

If tests come back negative (no asbestos found) you will then be able to proceed with the construction process with no hassle and have the required documentation to prove your space is free from asbestos. If asbestos is found to be present, the asbestos containing materials will need to be removed by a certified company such as Relief Restorations before you can proceed with renovations.

Testing is required on all renovations to buildings built prior to 1990, failure to test suspect materials can result in health risks, project delays, regulatory issues, and lawsuits.

Frequently Asked Questions
Asbestos Bulk Sample Testing and Inventory Services

1. What is asbestos bulk sample testing?
Asbestos bulk sample testing involves collecting samples of suspect building materials, such as drywall joint compound, vermiculite insulation, or flooring, and analyzing them through a certified lab to determine if asbestos is present.

2. Why do I need asbestos bulk sample testing?
Testing is crucial when you plan renovations, demolitions or suspect materials in your building may contain asbestos. It helps ensure the safety of occupants and workers by identifying potential asbestos hazards.

3. How is an asbestos bulk sample collected?
Our trained professionals carefully collect small samples from suspect materials using safe procedures to minimize exposure. The samples are then sent to a lab for precise analysis.

4. What is an asbestos inventory?
An asbestos inventory is a detailed record of all suspect and confirmed asbestos-containing materials (ACMs) in a building. It outlines the location, type, condition and more, of these materials, aiding in ongoing management and compliance with safety regulations.

5. Why is an asbestos inventory important?
Having an asbestos inventory is essential for property owners, especially during renovations or maintenance work. It ensures workers and occupants are informed of potential risks and helps in planning safe asbestos management.

6. How often should an asbestos inventory be updated?
An asbestos inventory should be reviewed and updated annually, particularly if the building undergoes renovations, repairs, or significant changes. It ensures accurate records of material conditions, risk or removed asbestos materials.
7. Is an asbestos inventory mandatory?
Depending on local regulations and building use, an asbestos inventory may be required for compliance, especially for older buildings or when work takes place in the building. It is crucial for compliance with safety laws and protecting public health.
8. How long does it take to get asbestos testing results?
Lab results for asbestos testing typically take 1-7 business days depending on your timeline selection. Once we receive the results, we will discuss the findings, provide documentation and recommend any necessary actions for your property. Inventories can take multiple business days to complete depending on the required scope of work and size of the building.

9. Why do you need to collect multiple samples for some materials?
As per Manitoba regulations, materials mixed on site, medium to large areas and various other materials will require more than one sample, typically 3 or more samples per material depending on the amount of material present. These materials have been found to contain asbestos in some areas while not in others due to inconsistent mixing, renovations, or the installation process. Materials mixed through a manufacturing process (ex: tiles, shingles, etc.) are mixed in a more uniform manner and one sample may be sufficient. Materials that have multiple layers may also require multiple samples.
