How Restoration Products Are Selected

Why product choices are made project by project, and what goes into the decision.

4 min read

There is no fixed list of products for every job. Which products are used - if any - is decided for each project based on what the assessment finds. This is why the centre describes products that may be used rather than products that will be used.

It starts with an assessment

Before any product is chosen, the affected area is assessed: what happened, how far it has spread, what materials are involved, and what risks are present. The findings drive every decision that follows.

What goes into the decision

  • Type of contamination - clean water, sewage, smoke, mould, or asbestos
  • Building materials and surfaces involved, and their compatibility
  • Scope of work - what is being cleaned, removed, treated, or sealed
  • Safety requirements for occupants, pets, and workers
  • Manufacturer directions and the product's intended use
  • Industry standards and applicable regulations

Safety and standards

Product choices follow recognised restoration industry standards and manufacturer directions, and - for regulated work such as asbestos - the applicable regulations. The goal is always to use the least-aggressive effective approach for the situation.

The bottom line

Most projects use only a few products. If you would like to know what is being used on your specific project, just ask - we are happy to explain the choices and share the documentation.
