Restoration products are professional-use chemicals. Used correctly, by trained people, with the right precautions, they are a normal and safe part of restoration work. Here is what 'used safely' means in practice.
Professional application
Many products are designed to be applied by trained professionals who understand the product, the conditions, and the controls required. Some are straightforward; others - such as encapsulants and certain removers - are used as part of regulated or controlled work.
Personal protective equipment (PPE)
Technicians use the protective equipment called for by each product's SDS - which may include gloves, eye protection, and respiratory protection - and the controls appropriate to the work, such as containment and negative air pressure.
Ventilation
Ventilation requirements vary by product. Some need none, some benefit from airflow, and some require active ventilation during application. Products with a strong odour, such as odour-sealing primers and some removers, are used with good ventilation during and after application.
Occupancy and re-entry
- Occupants may be able to remain in unaffected areas for many cleaning steps
- Temporary relocation may be recommended for some sealing, encapsulation, or abatement work
- Re-entry timing depends on drying and ventilation, and is confirmed per project
- Children and pets are kept out of the work area until surfaces are dry and the space is ventilated
Why recommendations vary
There is no one-size-fits-all answer because every project is different. The products, the materials, the size of the area, and the people in the building all factor in. That is why occupancy, re-entry, and ventilation are determined per project - and why our team will always tell you what applies to yours.
