What it does and why it is used
A negative air machine is an air scrubber set up to exhaust filtered air outside the containment. This lowers the air pressure inside the work area so that air always flows inward, preventing mould spores or asbestos fibres from drifting into clean parts of the building. It is essential to safe containment.
Typical restoration applications
- Maintaining negative pressure in mould and asbestos containments
- Preventing particle migration out of the work area
What to expect on site
A unit runs inside the sealed containment, usually venting through a hose to the outside.
Typical operating times
Runs continuously for the entire time the containment is in place.
Noise
A steady fan noise from the containment area.
Safety
Safe; it is a key control that keeps the work area isolated from the rest of the building.
Can it be turned off?
Must stay running - turning it off would break containment. Our team manages it.
Common questions
More mould equipment
Air Monitoring Equipment
Air Monitoring Equipment
Sampling pumps and meters that test the air to confirm an area is safe before re-occupancy.
Containment System
Containment System
Sealed polyethylene barriers that isolate the work area so particles stay contained.
HEPA Air Scrubber / Air Filtration
HEPA Air Scrubber
Continuously filters airborne particles - mould spores, soot, and dust - through a HEPA filter to clean the air.
